How to Use Wise Program Uninstaller to Remove Stubborn Software
Removing stubborn or partially uninstalled programs can be frustrating. Wise Program Uninstaller is a free Windows utility that helps remove such software cleanly by running the program’s built-in uninstaller and then scanning for leftover files, folders, and registry entries. Follow this step-by-step guide to uninstall stubborn programs safely.
Before you start — quick preparations
- Backup: Create a System Restore point (Control Panel > Recovery > Open System Restore > Create a restore point).
- Close apps: Quit the target program and any related processes (Task Manager: right-click taskbar → Task Manager).
- Admin rights: Run Wise Program Uninstaller as an administrator (right-click its shortcut → Run as administrator).
Step 1 — Download and install Wise Program Uninstaller
- Download the latest Wise Program Uninstaller installer from the official WiseCleaner website.
- Run the installer and follow prompts to complete installation.
- Launch the app.
Step 2 — Locate the stubborn program
- In Wise Program Uninstaller’s main window, use the program list or the search box to find the application you want to remove.
- If the program is not listed, click the Refresh button to rescan installed programs. If still missing, use the “Forced Uninstall” option (explained below).
Step 3 — Use Safe Uninstall first
- Select the program from the list.
- Click Uninstall. Wise Program Uninstaller runs the program’s built-in uninstaller first.
- Follow any prompts from the program’s uninstaller.
- After the built-in uninstaller finishes, Wise Program Uninstaller will scan for leftover files, folders, and registry entries. When the scan completes, review the results and click Delete to remove leftovers.
Step 4 — When Safe Uninstall fails: Forced Uninstall
Use Forced Uninstall if:
- The program’s uninstaller is missing or broken.
- The program doesn’t appear in the list.
- Partial uninstall left folders/registry entries that block reinstallation.
Forced Uninstall options:
- Select program from list and choose Forced Uninstall.
- Browse to folder: Point Wise Program Uninstaller to the program’s installation folder (usually in C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files (x86)).
- Enter uninstall string: If you know the uninstall registry string, paste it.
Procedure:
- Choose Forced Uninstall and confirm.
- The tool will search for program traces and let you select items to remove. Carefully review items — registry entries marked for deletion are safe to remove in most cases, but if unsure, leave uncommon entries.
- Click Delete to remove found items.
Step 5 — Clean remaining traces manually (optional)
If leftovers persist:
- Open File Explorer and check common locations: C:\Program Files, C:\Program Files (x86), and C:\Users\AppData\Local and \Roaming for folders named after the app.
- Open Registry Editor (regedit) and search (Ctrl+F) for the program name — only delete keys you recognize. Back up registry keys before deletion (File > Export).
Step 6 — Restart and verify
- Restart Windows to complete removal.
- Confirm the program is gone by checking Start menu, Programs list, and by attempting a reinstall if that was the goal.
Safety tips
- Always create a System Restore point before making registry changes.
- Prefer Safe Uninstall first. Use Forced Uninstall only when necessary.
- If uncertain about specific registry entries, skip them or consult support forums.
Troubleshooting
- If Wise Program Uninstaller crashes, reinstall the latest version or run it in Safe Mode.
- If residues block reinstallation, run an installer as administrator or use the program’s own repair option before uninstalling again.
Using Wise Program Uninstaller properly removes most stubborn software and leftover traces, restoring disk space and preventing conflicts.
